My kitten burnt its tongue. Is it dangerous, or should I just leave it?
I left my saucepan on the side after heating something up (not cooking or boiling) and she licked it and burnt her tongue. I know it hurt because she made a funny noise and jumped back.
It’s probably silly to worry about something like this, but I thought I’d ask to be on the safe side.
Thank you for all your really good answers, but it only happened a few minutes ago. I’ll keep an eye on her. It’ll probably be okay though.

Cats are silly, and burn themselves all the time. I suggest keep a fresh bowl of cold water around at all times. Our cats jump om the fireplace all the time.
My friend’s cat licked a hot toaster. She took her to the vet and he gave her antibiotics to combat any infection. You may need to rub her with baby wipes and give her baths for a week or so. Having a sore tongue, she will not be able to clean herself. My friend had to do this. A cat will get stinky in a day or so without self-grooming.
Most cats will not touch anything that is too hot. If she really did burn her tongue (which I doubt) then take her to your Vet!
A cat’s tongue is one of there lifelines. Is she eating, drinking and grooming herself? If you answer yes to all these questions, she’s probably okay.
Take her to the vet pronto. She needs meds so the burn won’t get infected.
kinda keep an eye on her to make sure she isnt showing funny signs that something hurts. it probably just startled her if it wasnt burning hot. if it seems like there is something wrong, like shes hurting or if you see a bad burn on her mouth, take her to teh vet. otherwise dont worry, if it didnt harm her then shell be fine and no need to do anything.
There really isn’t much you can do. Its probably just a minor burn that should heal quickly.
It is a good idea to keep a very close eye on cats when you are cooking. I know someone who was making dinner, walked away for a bit and her cat jumped up onto the stove and burned her paws which was serious. So be careful.
