Kitten question: Color changing fur?
I have a four month old kitten that is half Maine Coon and half Russian Blue. He is a beautiful shade of slate gray, and he has long very fluffy fur. I was just petting him, and playing with his fur. When I parted it in reverse direction to make sure he didn’t need to be brushed, I noticed that the fur closest to his skin (about a quarter to a half inch) of his fur was a much, much lighter shade of gray, almost a silver color.
It’s funny cause just earlier I noticed that his muzzle, where the fur is actually short, was a lighter gray than the rest of his fur but I thought it was the lighting or something.
I just want to know, is it normal for kitten’s fur to change color? I know that fur grows at a certain rate, and we have had the kitten for about a month. If I had to guess based on the overall length of his fur, I would say that the lighter color corresponds with the amount of time he has lived with us.
Would a change in diet/environment cause a change like this? I’m really curious, though not alarmed as he is a very healthy and happy little guy. Thanks!
Kitten coat can change and get a "smoky" color before they shed out and get the adult coat. Sounds like what is going on with your kitten.
Yes, it is very normal.
When I got my oldest kitten, she was solid white. now her body is grey, her stomach is white, and around her nose is black.
yes it is normal…it happens with Siamese and maine coons too I have one her name is maggie…the changed fron Bright orange to to golden orange!!!!
Definitely normal. I have 2 Birmans who started out almost completely cream colored and as they get older, they get darker patches of grey and brown on their backs.
yeah. thats wayy normal
ya, it’s totally normal.
