I’m looking to get a black kitten. What is best, buying one from a pet store or adoption?
I want to get a black kitten and I need to know what would be best to do. I want one that has short hair as well.
Adopting is far better than purchasing from a pet store, however if you are worried about any behavioural or health problems you might find in a kitten of unknown origin in a shelter consider buying from a registered breeder. Buying a pedigree cat from a quality in-home breeder guarantees the genetic health of the cat and a great temperate and depending on the breed you are interested in can be quite inexpensive. There are several breeds of cat that are or come in black, such as the Bombay. Consider that buying a cat from a breeder who tests their stock may save you money in vet bills down the track, and being raised in a secure and loving environment also helps minimise the potential destruction of your furniture if kittens are used to using a litter box and scratching tree.
If you are unable to buy from a breeder than definitely consider a shelter, an make sure you get some information on temperament first, and a copy of the cats health records. Also take your cat straight to another vet for a second health check, while I have two pedigree cats now my last cat came from a pound and she was a terror for the first few months but with time and patience grew into a loving companion.
