Kitten Adoption Rescue
When is the best time to get a new kitten.?
I have a older cat now, and have decided to add a second. I bought my first one 10 years ago at a pet shop which I would never do again (I was a young lad and didn’t really consider the evils of the kitty mills). I am looking into rescue groups and it seems that kitten season runs from April through November. I figure that the holidays (Easter and Christmas) would be a bad time to pick one up because there is such a demand. I would like to rescue one during a slower time when there is a much greater need for adoption. Would June be a good time or should I wait until the end of summer? Anybody have any experience in this. I have been considering this for about two years and have finally decided to go forward so don’t mistake me as someone rushing into this.
i disagree with mark (sorry mark) but i have seen many older cats from shelters that were WONDERUFL pets.i used to volunteer at one.already litter trained and stuff.although,most cats are atracted to litter boxes to go bathroom in. and there was a cat that showed up at my door one day that was young,but not a kitten,and i tried to find who she belonged to but no one claimed her, so i took her in and she is the friendliest little fur ball. i wouldnt change her for the world. that is sooooooo good that you realize the association of petshops and mills. and too,that is good that you want to adopt or rescue one. we need more people like you in the world. but as for a certain time, i dont really think there is. there are always neglectful owners who let their cats have babies and they take them to the shelter. i am a firm believer in spaying and neutering…helps control pet overpopulation. good luck in what you do!
