Kitten Adoption Advice

Kitten Having Seizures?

I was holding my potential future kitten at a shelter wide awake and I felt him seize hard twice. It felt like his heart wanted to jump out of his chest. I felt his body pump hard twice. It wasn’t like a twitch. He never did it again while I was holding him, but I’m concerned. First I thought maybe he was scared, but he didn’t try to jump out of my arms. I filled out the adoption application for him and noticed a clause that said “Please initial that you are aware that your cat may have been exposed to (or may have) an Upper Respiratory Infection (or other illness).” Needless to say I haven’t adopted him, but I want to. I need some advice please. What is with the clause on the application and why did his body pump twice so hard like that?
They said they already had him checked out, neutured, all his shots, etc. It felt like a pump. I don’t know how else to explain it. His body pumped hard twice. It was strange.

upper respiratory infection is “cat flu” and commonly caught in places such as kennels or shelters, they are just covering their butts. they dont want you to take the cat, discover it is ill then bring it back for treatment.

i suggest you let the shelter know what happened with him, they will observe him and seek medical treatment. once you know whats wrong with him then you should decide to adopt or not. if its a serious condition it might be kinder for him to be euthanased, especially if you arent confident you can provide any extent of medical treatment he might need (and the costs).

choose carefully :)
