Hi Rebecca…ideally local shelters have kittens available for adoption and their fee generally includes spay/neuter and vaccinations. Additionally, consider searching for your new kitten on either petfinder http://www.petfinder.com your local Craigslist. http://www.craigslist.org . People post ads for free kittens every minute on a daily basis so be sure to check back often. However, keep in mind most of the kittens found on Craiglist unlikely are neutered/spayed or have their primary vaccinations.

Here’s a direct link for the pet section in Los Angeles:
    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/pet/

    Other California locations:
http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/ca (look under community and then subsection pets to begin searching in these other cities)

contact your local ASPCA!!!!!! or humane society….. For your own safety, do not go to anyone that’s not reputable (like ones on craigs list)

Try http://www.petfinder.com/index.html it will do searches for age, type gender breed and location. Then you can contact the shelters directly and there are many cats that need adoption.

Have you perhaps searched on Petfinder? They have tons of animals and I’m sure there’s someone in California looking to place a kitty in a good home. You can also check the classified section of your local paper.

Everyone here had great ideas. I think Petfinder.com is your best bet. You might want to rethink getting a kitten that young. They are still needing their mothers I think.
